A graduate role in Business Development
What does it involve?
Business development is a department responsible for the creation of long-term value for an organisation from customers, markets and relationships. So, you are responsible for coming up with great ideas which will help the business to increase their bottom line!
A lot of people who work in Business Development have had experience in sales or consultancy as the department are normally set big targets which need to be hit. The teams are varied with fellow workers coming from all industries and functions.
You can be sure that you’ll be constantly challenged; the best tend to raise expectations which then have to be met. Businesses tend to acknowledge the importance of their Business Development team; without them not much would happen.
At its best: An exciting and challenging role in which you're given freedom to innovate, try new channels and messages and choose the approach you will take.
At its worst: A slightly frustrating role in which the objectives you have been set might be blocked by internal politics or bureaucracy.
